SA: Avis’ new turnaround facility at the airport takes off
In a bid to gear up for the 2010 Soccer World Cup Abland has thrown its energy into creating a turnaround facility for the internationally known Avis group. Situated in close proximity to the Cape Town International Airport, a gateway for travellers worldwide, it will be ideally placed to deal with the massive influx of tourists to South African shores in less than a year’s time.
With a capacity of approximately 6 000 cars, a state of the art workshop and over eight hectares of under-roof parking available, including an Avis Regional Office within the facility; the developer, Abland has pulled out all the stops in the construction of this impressive landmark.
Completed in July 2009, this development will service all Avis rental vehicles at some point in their mechanical lives. The massive facility is equipped to repair, maintain, wash, diagnose and store vehicles to ensure all rentals within the Cape region are up to the high standards Avis has become known for.
As the manager of the Avis brand in Southern Africa and project sponsor, Barloworld’s involvement included negotiations with (Airports Company South Africa)ACSA and Abland to develop a state-of-the-art facility for AVIS and to ensure the facility will be operationally efficient.
This turnaround facility is yet another exciting development to take place within South African borders in preparation for the highly anticipated and most widely broadcast sporting event in the world –The 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup.
Apcon and the various design consultants worked together to ensure that this prestigious development was delivered on time, within budget all the while exuding the highest level of finishes.
This was only possible through all parties adopting a synergistic approach to the scheme thus ensuring that the end product complied with the original brief.
Operation of this facility will ensure that AVIS will be able to provide a quality service to the airport. On-site car wash facility, refuelling, workshop and panel shop will ensure that the fleet of vehicles are maintained to the highest standards. Green buildings practices implemented support the sustainability goals of the company.
